I’m neither dead nor sleeping but I am certainly due to post an update.
I’m powering through the end of semester at grad school (final papers, thesis chapters, not to mention Laura’s law school exams and papers), aiming to complete my thesis before the end of the month and then defend later in the summer.
Summer and fall will see me training like crazy and racing to the best of my ability. My first race is about six weeks out and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve got a long season ahead of me (May 29-November 20), so I’m being patient, putting in the work now, and aiming for a stellar year. Given my less-than-singular focus (grad school, building my consulting business, working on an iPhone app), I won’t come into May in peak shape, but that’s life right now.
I’m setting up life to ensure that I’m able to fully give myself to the sport once the thesis is off my plate. I’ve got clear goals for where I want to go in triathlon and I aim to reach those goals.
This year, I’m riding a 2011 Argon 18 E-114, which came to me by way of SpeedTheory Calgary.
My bike was kept secure during Laura’s flight from Calgary to Victoria in a black EVOC travel bag (EVOC makes wonderful bike travel bags for road and triathlon bikes). The knowledgable staff at Oak Bay Bikes finished the setup on the bike (routing the cables, putting a new saddle, general tweaking). If you’re in Victoria, Oak Bay Bikes sells EVOC bike bags, so make sure you pop in!
A ReTul bike fit with Noa later this week will have me hitting the road on my new speed machine. I can’t wait!
I’m headed back to Calgary for a short hello to friends and family in early May, so I’m really, really hoping that the roads will be ready to ride. This trip means I’ll miss the TC10k, which is a little disappointing as I wanted to use that race to gauge where I’m at. . . but, I can do the same in training.
Here’s a couple more shots of the bike in the EVOC bag.

Up next on the blog: Review of SOLE sports flips (awesome, comfy, stylish), sports socks, and custom moldable footbeds.
SOLE just send me a small box of goodies. If you’re in Victoria, you can pickup SOLE product at Dynamic Footworks.
